The entries are in, the shortlist is being finalised, and Mpumalanga’s most resilient entrepreneurs are counting down to the main event.

After applications closed on 7 May 2026, the Hollywood Foundation is now gearing up for the 2026 Mpumalanga Bambelela Business Awards – a two-day celebration of the small and medium businesses keeping the province’s economy moving.

Every Dream is Valid

This year’s theme: “Bambelela (Hold On) Your Dreams Are Valid”, struck a chord with business owners across Mpumalanga who are building, creating jobs, and solving problems in their communities despite real challenges.

For the hundreds who applied, the awards have been more than a competition. They’ve been a chance to be seen, heard, and supported. Now, selected SMMEs (Small Medium and Micro Enterprises) are preparing to take Centre stage.

What’s Coming in the Main Event?

The main event is a two-day programme designed to do more than hand out trophies. It combines an Exhibition and Seminar where chosen businesses will pitch directly to a panel of judges.

Judges will be looking for more than good ideas. They want to see strong potential, creativity, and proof of positive impact in local communities. For the entrepreneurs involved, it’s a rare opportunity to get direct feedback, build networks, and gain visibility with investors and partners.

At the end of it all, winners will share R1 135 000 in funding sponsored by the Hollywood Foundation. For many, that funding could mean scaling operations, buying equipment, hiring staff, or reaching new customers.

Why It Matters

Mpumalanga’s SMMEs are the backbone of local job creation and economic growth. The Bambelela Awards were created to back that reality with real support – not just recognition.

The Hollywood Foundation says the initiative reflects its ongoing commitment to backing local businesses and helping the province’s next generation of entrepreneurs thrive. By pairing funding with mentorship, exposure, and practical guidance, the awards aim to turn short-term wins into long-term growth.

Eligibility Criteria

– Businesses must be 100% Black-owned.
– Must be a local business, registered and operating within Mpumalanga region.
– Open to both formal and informal registered businesses.
– The business must have been operational for at least 12 months, with a proven trading record.
– Applicants must provide a business profile or a clear description of the company/business and its activities.

What Happens Next

With the application window now closed, the focus shifts to the selected finalists and the main event. If your business made it through, get ready to pitch, connect, and show Mpumalanga what you’re building.

If you didn’t make it this year, keep watching – the Bambelela platform is becoming a fixture for entrepreneurs who are serious about growing.
