Lwaleng primary school from Ehlanzeni district in White River Circuit, took first place in the Farm School category, during day one of the national ABC Motsepe South African School Choral Eisteddfodd, held at Rhema Bible church in Randburg, Gauteng province, on Tuesday.
Mpumalanga department of education featured in five out of eight categories.
” Bravo Lwaleng! Mpumalanga is proud of you. Congratulations to the choristers, teachers and parents who have offered their support, and to the talented choristers who triumphed over the other competitors. Well done to all the schools that participated and thank you for flying the flag of the place of the rising sun,” said the department of education.
The competition is coordinated by the department of Basic education and it’s said to promote unity in diversity, national reconciliation, positive values, a new South African national identity, social transformation and social cohesion.
It runs for four days, with the first day dedicated to primary schools and the other three days showcase secondary schools that perform various pieces from choir, opera, Izitibili and Indigenous folklore.

Special schools: Basizeni special school- third place
Farm school chamber choir: Lingitjudu, second place
Intermediate phase western: Sibuyile primary, second place
Indigenous folklore: Maloka primary, second place.
