Hosi Abednigo Nxumalo of the Amashangana Traditional council was inaugurated at the old Thulamahashe stadium in Bushbuckridge. Nxumalo is said to be the heir to the throne of the chieftaincy, succeeding his father, Hosi Mpisana Eric Nxumalo.
The inauguration was attended by Mpumalanga premier, Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane, who handed over a certificate of recognition to Hosi Nxumalo. Surrounding communities at large, also came out in their numbers to witness the prestigious ceremony.
The provincial government said that it recognises the vital role of the institution of traditional leadership in preserving indigenous knowledge and cultural heritage, also viewing the inauguration of Hosi Nxumalo as key to affirm this position.
Mtshweni-Tsipane delivered a keynote address, highlighting the working relations between the provincial government and traditional leaders.
Other dignitaries present at the event included; MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs- Mandla Msibi, president of CONTRALESA (congress of traditional leaders of South Africa)-Kgoshi Lameck Mokoena together with members of the Mpumalanga provincial house of traditional and Khoisan leaders, MEC for health-Sasekani Manzini, to name but a few.
