Mpumalanga police are in hot pursuit of criminals who allegedly hijacked an unmarked police bakkie from an officer in Calcutta.
The bakkie was recovered at Kabokweni the following day, after it was reportedly abandoned in the bushes by the culprits.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, colonel Donald Mdhluli, said that a manhunt is underway to ensure that the perpetrators account for their brazen act of criminality.
” According to (police) report, the member got home during the evening at around 18h35. He came out of the bakkie to check if he had safely parked the state vehicle. Out of the blue, three alleged armed men suddenly appeared then one of them is said to have cocked a firearm and the member was held at gunpoint,” said Mdhluli.
The officer allegedly said that the three suspects hijacked the state vehicle and drove off, leaving him behind.
A case of car highjacking was registered at Calcutta police station. Those with information regarding the incident are urged to contact the police.
