Smallholder farmers in eMbalenhle, near Secunda, visited local informal and formal markets during the last day of the SHEP workshop.

According to DARDLEA(Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environment), the visit was aimed at assisting the smallholder farmers to gain first-hand experience in dealing with markets, as well as networking with potential trading partners.

The farmers market were given the opportunity to know the type of produce such as vegetables, crops on demand in the market. In addition, they also learnt about quality and quantity, peak demand period.

“ The group visited Boxer, Roots, and eMbalenhle’s Marabastad informal market. The SHEP workshop aimed at helping farmers to access and benefit from the markets by knowing what it is they must produce, because it is in demand,” said DARDLEA in a statement.
