A two-day induction and orientation workshop was held at Riverside, Southern Sun, in Mbombela, hosted by the Mpumalanga Department of Health on 21 and 22 February.
The induction, facilitated by stakeholders such as the National Department of Health, World Health Organisation, National Institute for Communicable Diseases and the John Hopkins Program for International Education in Gynaecology and Obstetrics, was reportedly aimed at capacitating the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre(PHEOC) steering committee members in their field of work.
ā The workshop touched on, amongst other topics, the introduction to International Health Regulations(2005), the General Principles of Emergency Management, Emergency Management Programme Development, the preparedness cycle, funding and sustainability of the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre,ā said the Department of Health in a statement.
The Department added that the PHEOC is a central location for coordinating operational information and resources for strategic management of public health emergencies and events. It is also said to provide communication and information tools.
ā It is a platform for management of public health emergencies for leadership, decision-making, management of resources and coordination. At the end of the two-day workshop, members are expected to nominate the subcommittee and the chairperson, and establish the PHEOC in the province,ā the Department concluded.
