A 96 year-old woman, Emmah Mathenjwa, from Langeloop village-Nkomazi local municipality, could not believe her eyes when she finally walked into a new fully-furnished home which was handed over by Mpumalanga MEC for human settlements, Speed Mashilo.
The department said, in a statement, that the handover was part of launching Woman’s month campaign. In addition, the department said that Gogo Mathenjwa openly mentioned that the day could not be compared to any moment in life, as her dignity is restored.
It was also reported that, later on the day, MEC engaged with local women of Langeloop village to explore ways and interventions on prevalent challenges affecting them.
Mashilo was accompanied by the local executive mayor, Phindile Magagula, who congratulated Gogo Mathenjwa and applauded the intervention by the MEC, and the department.
