A murder case is currently under investigation after the lifeless body of former Police Union Executive, Nkosinathi Theledi(61), was discovered inside his vehicle on 1 August.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the victim’s two cellphones, wristwatch, as well as his shoes were missing. Additionally, Mdhluli said the victim displayed signs of physical trauma, including bruises and evidence of bleeding. The police were subsequently convinced that there was foul play surrounding his death, after a preliminary investigation.
“ According to reports, the victim left his residence in Gauteng on 31 July 2024, en route to Standerton. Concerned family members attempted to contact him but were unsuccessful in their efforts. Subsequently, he was reported missing at Norkem Park,” said Mdhluli.
Theledi’s family reportedly sought assistance from a car tracker service provider, which led to the location of his vehicle in Sundra.
“ The police and paramedics arrived at the scene and Mr Theledi was unfortunately certified dead. Of particular interest to investigators is the apparent cleaning of the vehicle, the motive for which remains unknown at this time. No suspects have been apprehended yet, and police are appealing to the public for any information that may aid the investigation,” said Mdhluli.
The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner in Mpumalanga, Major-General(Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi, has questioned the victim’s death and assigned a team of investigators to uncover the truth behind the gruesome discovery.
“ We strongly condemn this incident and are committed to leaving no stone unturned in our pursuit of justice,” said Mkhwanazi.
