Legendary South African jazz musician, Hugh Masekela, was recently inducted into the Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame in New York City, United States of America.
Bra Hugh, as he’s affectionately known to his fans, joins other world renowned and equally influential artists in the jazz fraternity such as, Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald, who also deservedly received the same recognition in the past.
His daughter( Pula Twala), son (Selema Masekela) and nephew(Mabusha Masekela) were present at the event to receive the award.
Masekela passed away in 2018 but his enchanting trumpet still plays on through the hit songs he left behind such as, Grazing in the grass, Thanayi, Stimela, Khauleza and Thuma mina, to name but a few.
