Mamelodi Sundowns were knocked out of the Nedbank cup quarter finals following a 2-1 loss to Stellenbosch FC on Saturday at Athlone stadium.

Sundowns head coach, Rhulani Mokwena, said during a post match interview that his team lost a very important game.

” I will not hide, it’s in these moments where as the leadership and as the coach I have to stand up and be accountable. I’m responsible for the bad results. It’s my responsibility to be in front, especially when the team is not doing well. When the opposition is better than you, with a lot of humility and grace you accept the result and move on,” said Mokwena.

Masandawana scored in the first half and held on until they committed two defensive errors in the second half that paved the way for Stellenbosch player, Iqraam Rayners, to score a brace, sealing a spot for Stellies in the next stage of the tournament.

The semi-finals fixture was drawn on Sunday. Orlando Pirates will face Kaizer Chiefs, while Sekhukhune United will take on Stellenbosch FC. The semi-finals will be played on 6 and 7 May.
