Key players in the energy sector recently came together during the Mpumalanga Energy Investment Roundtable event hosted by Mpumalanga DEDT(Department of Economic Development and Tourism), through the MGCA(Mpumalanga Green Cluster Agency) at Sydney Choma Banquet Hall in Middelburg.

The event also saw the presence of various MECs(Members of the Executive Council (MECs), executive mayors, senior officials from national, provincial and local government, energy regulators, industry associations, independent power producers, development finance institutions to strengthen collaboration and unlock investment opportunities that will support the province’s energy future.

According to DEDT, the event was geared towards finding practical solutions to speed up renewable energy projects across the province.

DEDT MEC, Jesta Sidell, revealed in her keynote address that the provincial government is committed to ensuring that no one is left behind as Mpumalanga advances its energy transition.

“ The transition presents an opportunity to diversify the provincial economy, attract investment, create sustainable jobs and ensure that communities share in the benefits of a growing renewable energy sector,” said MEC Sidell.

Mpumalanga Director-General, Maggie Skosana, said the purpose of the roundtable is to provide a platform for renewable energy developers, government institutions, regulators, municipalities, development finance institutions and strategic partners to collectively identify solutions to barriers affecting investment and the implementation of energy projects in the province.
