In a bid to provide an income relief through temporary employment for the unemployed youth from impoverished backgrounds, Mpumalanga MEC for Health, Sasekani Manzini, launched the Expanded Letsema EPWP(Expanded Public Works Programme) and Cleaning Campaign at Themba Regional Hospital, outside White River, under Ehlanzeni District Municipality on Thursday 14 March.
The programme is also reportedly aimed at assisting the departmental infrastructure development and technical services, which is responsible to eradicate minor maintenance and auxiliary matters, in ensuring that health facilities are safe, clean and that the infrastructure is kept in good condition.
MEC Manzini said, in a media briefing, that 63 EPWP participants started their work on 2 October 2023 to carry out their duties through various health facilities in the province.
She said that the participants provide services such as grass cutting and tree trimming, painting of worn out walls and replacing door handles, changing lightbulbs, unblocking drainage and providing welding skills.
“ We are very pleased with the work they are currently doing. They are definitely adding value to service delivery. Through this programme, everyone will also gain work experience with relevant skills.
