The picturesque mountains that circle the two towns of Dullstroom and Lydenburg were covered with wide white blankets of snow on Monday and Tuesday.
Residents were on high alert to experience this rare occurrence following prior caution by the South African Weather Service(SAWS)during the weekend.
The breath-taking sight was refreshingly exciting but brought along the coldest winter weather as compared to previous years.
The Longtom Pass was temporarily closed on Monday as motorists struggled to navigate the slippery road as a result of the snowfall, coupled with low visibility due to heavy mist in the evening.
SAWS correctly predicted that low weather temperatures will be experienced in the two towns, starting from a chilling minimum of zero to a maximum of 5 degrees on Monday and Tuesday.
Other areas in Mpumalanga such as Bethal, Volksrust, Carolina, Middleburg, Delmas, Secunda and Emalahleni,
also experienced their fair share of the snowfall.
