Mpumalanga police are busy with investigations following yet another incident whereby four trucks were allegedly torched on the N2 between Piet Retief and Ermelo on Wednesday morning.
Provincial spokesperson for police in Mpumalanga, brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said that out of the four trucks, three were seriously burned while one was burnt in the cabin. Mohlala added that a lady, who was a passenger in one of the trucks, sustained burn wounds on her feet as she was reportedly asleep during the said attack.
” It is alleged that people emerged from the bushes(sic), approached the trucks with firearms and instructed the drivers to get out or otherwise they will burn them inside. The drivers ran away and the trucks were then set alight,” said Mohlala.
He stated that the motive for the attacks is not known and no arrests were made so far.
This incident adds to the 5 trucks that were also burned on the N4 toll route in Watervalboven on Monday, bringing the total to 9 burned trucks in Mpumalanga this week alone.
