Caption: Female officers enforcing the law during a women-only roadblock

As part of Women’s Month commemorations, Mpumalanga DCSSL (Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison) led a successful women-only multi-disciplinary roadblock, Operation Basadi, held on the R536 Road in Mkhuhlu, Bushbuckridge Local Municipality on Friday 14 August 2026.
According to DCSSL spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, more than 900 vehicles were stopped and checked by women officers from across law enforcement and regulatory agencies. He also said the operation shows that women are not only celebrating, they are also leading in ensuring safety on South African roads. Mmusi added that the action helps DCSSL to enforce compliance and remind motorists that outstanding fines must be settled.
“The roadblock was part of broader Women’s Month activities taking place across the country and the province. The team stopped and checked at least 951 vehicles. From those, 75 fines were issued to motorists for various traffic violations.
Over and above this, R14000 was collected from motorists through the Automated Number Plate Recognition vehicle also known as Nyamsoro from unpaid traffic fines,” Mmusi confirmed.
He said the officers were from DCSSL, Transport Inspectorate from the Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport , SAPS(South African Police Service), as well as officials from Home Affairs.
