A 41-year-old male suspect was nabbed for possession of stolen property and hijacking of a tyre delivery truck in Bushbuckridge.

The incident reportedly occurred on the R40 Road on Friday 20 June 2025.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane, the truck driver was passing through Dwarsloop, after making a delivery at Bushbuckridge Tyre Mart when he was stopped by an armed suspect and ordered to drive to a scrap yard located at Maribishing, in Bushbuckridge.

“ The suspects off-loaded 36 tyres from the truck. After the theft, the driver was ordered to leave and subsequently drove to the nearest police station to open a case. The police received a tip-off from Netstar Tracking Company regarding the location of the stolen tyres,” said Lt-Col Ndubane.

Police officers reportedly responded swiftly and headed to the location where they discovered the alleged stolen tyres stashed inside a garage. A man was reportedly arrested after claiming that the tyres were delivered by an unknown individual.

A total of 26 tyres valued at R67,140,00, were reportedly seized by the police. Lt-Col Ndubane said the truck is valued at R500,000.

The suspect will appear before the Bushbuckridge Magistrate’s Court on Monday 23 June 2025, to face the said charges.
