The Chief Executive Officer of GKEPF(Greater Kruger Environmental Protection Foundation), Sharon Haussmann, has sadly passed away.

The news of her untimely passing came as a shock to SANParks(South African National Parks) and various other stakeholders who have worked closely with her in the sector.

According to SANParks Communications Manager, JP Louw, Haussmann’s leadership and vision were instrumental in shaping partnerships that align with SANParks’ Vision 2040, a bold new strategic direction focused on collaboration, sustainability and inclusive conservation.

She’s also credited for bringing diverse stakeholders together, with a shared commitment towards protecting biodiversity, enhancing safety and promoting sustainable development.

In extending her words of condolences, SANParks Board Chairperson, Pakiso Yako, said the passing of Haussmann is deeply felt across the conservation community. Pako said Haussmann has left an indelible mark as a trailblazer, passionate conservationist and a true collaborator.

“ Sharon’s leadership acumen was evident in every engagement. Her clarity of thought, strategic foresight, and deep understanding of the complexities of the conservation partnerships consistently elevated the quality of dialogue and decision-making. It was through her vision and determination that GKEPF was established, becoming a strategic partners for both the Kruger National Park and SANParks,” said Pako.

According to Louw, GKEPF, under the stewardship of Haussmann, became a cornerstone of collaborative conservation in the Greater Kruger Landscape, representing a collective of private conservation areas bordering the iconic KNP(Kruger National Park).

Pako said the entire conservation community, GKEPF membership and SANParks mourn Haussmann’s passing and all parties will honour her memory by recommitting to the path of unity, innovation and unwavering protection of South Africa’s natural heritage, as she has eloquently forged.

“ May her legacy continue to inspire and guide us as we walk the trail, she so courageously blazed. SANParks extends heartfelt condolences to Sharon’s husband, Robin Haussmann, her son Aden and all the loved ones. May the beautiful soul of Sharon Haussmann rest in peace,” said Pako.
