In less than 24 hours after the official launch of the Easter Season Road Safety Campaign in Mpumalanga, various law enforcement agencies are already conducting operations in response to increased traffic volumes across the province due to the Easter long weekend.

Mpumalanga MEC for DPWRT(Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport), Thulasizwe Thomo, and the Executive Mayor of Thembisile Hani Local Municipality, Lesetja Dikgale, led the Transport Inspectorate team during a road block on the R573 Moloto Road in KwaMhlanga, Nkangala District, on Thursday 17 April 2025.

Thomo said heightened operations are being actively implemented by Inspectors in ensuring adherence to public transport regulations and curbing potential reckless driving incidents by public transport operators.

“ We will be on the ground throughout the long-weekend, working closely with our team across the province to keep our roads safe,” said Thomo.

The MEC has urged all road users, particularly transport operators, to ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and to rest every two hours during their respective journeys.

“ Avoid overloading, and always keep in mind that speed kills. Don’t dive, and only overtake when it safe to do so. Let’s work together to make this Easter safe for everyone,” Thomo cautioned.
