The police in Delmas came to the rescue of two men, aged 25 and 28, from an angry mob who accused them for the death of Sibongiseni Sithole(19).
According to police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, colonel Donald Mdhluli, the grandfather of the victim said that some people came to his house to inform him about the tragic news. He was subsequently taken to Botleng RDP houses where he discovered the lifeless body of his grandson.
” The police and paramedics were alerted about the incident and the young man was unfortunately certified dead at the scene. Police discovered that the victim sustained head injuries and stab wounds to his upper body.
” Hardly two hours later, after attending the murder scene, police received a call about an angry mob assaulting two victims. On arrival, police had a hard time in rescuing the victims and thanks to some members of the community who assisted in calming down the angry mob,” said Mdhluli.
The 25 year old man was reportedly taken to hospital for medical treatment after sustaining some injuries and is currently still under police guard, while the 28 year old man was locked up after being treated for minor injuries.
According to Mdhluli, preliminary(police) investigation revealed that the two are suspects in the murder of Sithole and a murder case was opened.
” Another complaint came forth from the same place where the duo were snatched. This time police found a house up in flames. It is alleged that the house belongs to one of the murder suspects. It is further alleged that there were blood stains on the door and windows as well as substances suspected to be traditional medicines,” he said.
The two suspects are expected to appear before the Delmas district court soon.
