Mbombela stadium came alive during an exciting DStv league match between the home team (TS Galaxy) and visitors (Orlando Pirates) on Sunday 30 April.

It was a crucial game for the bucaneers who are fighting to finish the season on second position in order to qualify for the CAF champions league. Bucs fans created an electric atmosphere as they came in numbers to support the Soweto giants.

Pirates made their intentions to win the match very clear by scoring the first goal in the second minute of the first half when Terence Dzvukamanja took advantage of a set piece and put the ball at the back of the net.

Galaxy were clearly rattled by the early goal and continued to apply pressure on the Bucs defence until Given Msimango scored the equaliser in the 39th minute from a corner kick. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.

Pirates came into the second half with more vigour to emerge victorious. They created many chances to bury the game but failed to capitalise. However, Dion Hotto broke the deadlog when he scored the second goal in the 59th minute, putting Bucs ahead of the opponent. Galaxy tried to equalise but the Pirates defence was solid. The game ended with a 2-1 victory by Pirates.

Bucs coach Jose Riveiro congratulated his team and also acknowledged the hard work displayed by Galaxy.

” It was a very intense game. We started well and had the game under control for the first twenty-five minutes. At times we were very exposed, overall it was a good performance. This is our sixth victory in a row and all the credit goes to the staff, players and the fans,” said Riveiro.
