The MEC for Health in Mpumalanga, Sasekani Manzini, launched the Closing 1.1 Million HIV Treatment Gap Campaign on Friday 16 May 2025 at Rob Ferreira Hospital in the City of Mbombela.
This initiative reportedly aims to identify and re-engage individuals who have disengaged from HIV treatment, supporting the country’s efforts to meet the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets by 2030, ensuring that all those diagnosed with HIV are linked to care, tested for TB, and achieve viral suppression.
According to the Department, the campaign was initially launched nationally by the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi.

“ The multi-sectoral campaign was attended by various stakeholders, health partners, Bukhosi, and dignitaries from the City of Mbombela from other various spheres of government, all of whom agreed to support this programme, moving forward, by advocating for the department to create public awareness to conscientise people about the importance of knowing their health status and acting accordingly to be assisted by the Department of Health and close the gap,” said the Department of Helath.
