A meeting was held between Mpumalanga Premier, Mandla Ndlovu, and the Mineral Council of South Africa leadership in Pretoria(Gauteng Province)on Tuesday 15 April 2025, giving the provincial government a platform to outline the priorities set out in the MTDP(Medium Term Development Plan).
Ndlovu was accompanied by the Director-General, Maggie Skhosana, and Heads of Departments.
The Provincial Government spokesperson, George Mthethwa, said the Council is a dynamic structure that represents mining companies. He added that the engagement was part of consolidating a conducive partnership between the province and the mining sector.
“ Premier Ndlovu told the Council about plans to reduce poverty from above 50% to 30%, creation of a target of 60 000 jobs per annum and grow the economy with a target of between 3% to 5%. The meeting was timely, this as the Premier announced a plan by the 7th Administration to establish a mining school in the Nkangala District, when tanking the SOPA(State of the Province Address) in February 2025,” said Mthethwa.

A follow-up meeting is reportedly planned in due course, which will further touch on practical contributions by the Mining sector towards the achievement of the Provincial Government priorities such as inclusive growth, job creation, reducing poverty and high costs of living, as well as building a capable, ethical and developmental state.
