The Mpumalanga and Limpopo Domestic Tourism Activation Campaign kicked off  on Thursday 24 September 2026, with a warm welcome in Tzaneen, a pause at the historic Strijdom Tunnel, and the proud ‘Giyani’ sign overlooking the town, welcoming travellers who believe the best discoveries are right here at home.
Mpumalanga media houses formed part of the campaign led by the MTPA(Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency) in collaboration with the LTA(Limpopo Tourism Agency). The campaign is a moving showcase of what it means to travel their  own country first.
The campaign carries more weight as it coincided with Heritage Day, and ongoing activities during this Tourism Month, furthermore adding to the efforts by both the MTPA and LTA to promote tourism, strengthen ties between the two provinces, as well as pushing for the economic development of SMMEs(Small Micro and Medium Enterprises).
For journalists and tourism official on the bus, the campaign is more than a trip. It is a story of shared heritage, scenic routes, and small towns whose tourism gems are waiting to be discovered by South Africans themselves.

Spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency  Simphiwe Shungube said the activation forms part of the good working relationship between Limpopo Tourism and Mpumalanga Tourism to strengthen and promote domestic tourism amongst the Two provinces.

“The activation seeks to promote domestic tourism, encourage interprovincial travel and strengthen tourism collaboration between Mpumalanga and Limpopo. The journey continues as the two provinces showcase their tourism offerings and encourage South Africans to explore the diverse experiences available on their doorstep,” said Shungube,

As the two provinces continue to traverse each other’s landscapes, from Mpumalanga’s panoramic routes and wildlife sanctuaries to Limpopo’s rich cultural heritage and legendary landmarks, the message is focused on convincing tourists that you don’t need a passport to find wonder. Sometimes, you just need to take the next exit on the interprovincial road.
