A multiple vehicle crash on the N4 toll road, between Malelane and Hectorspruit, has resulted in four deaths, on Sunday 13 July 2025.
The vehicles involved in the fatal crash include two hatchbacks, a bakkie, and an articulated truck.
According to the spokesperson for Mpumalanga DCSSL(Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison), Moeti Mmusi, the deceased are all females.

“ Four victims were occupants in one of the hatchback that collided head-on with the bakkie. One person who was in the hatchback that collided with the bakkie, sustained serious injuries. Five people including the driver and four passengers in the other hatchback sustained slight injuries. All the injured people were transported to the nearby Shongwe Hospital for medical care,” said Mmusi.
Mpumalanga DCSSL MEC, Jackie Macie, has extended his condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured occupants. Macie furthermore urged motorists to exercise caution on the road.
“ Let us all use the road cautiously to avoid these deadly crashes. We must obey the rules. It is very devastating for other people to lose their lives due to reckless behaviour of other drivers on the road,” said Macie.
The crash is reportedly under investigation by the DCSSL Engineering team in collaboration with the SAPS(South African Police Service), and RTMC(Road Traffic Management Cooperation)
