Outspoken radio presenter, author and political commentator, Eusebius McKaiser(45), has sadly died from a suspected epileptic sizure on Tuesday.

McKaiser’s extensive contribution to the media space in South Africa was highlighted by countless colleagues in the industry and political figures, who acknowledged his intellectual approach to burning issues, speaking truth to power, in the quest to protect human rights and stand for the ordinary citizen, particularly the marginalised groups. He worked for 702 talk radio, Mail & Guardian, Sunday Times, New York Times and SABC, to name but a few.

The leader of Build One South Africa(BOSA), Mmusi Maimane, shared his memorable moments with McKaiser.

” Eusebius did not shy away from asking difficult questions. He contributed to journalism in this country and media accountability. I respected him deeply and we became good friends throughout the years. I was deeply saddened to hear about his passing at a young age. He was someone who stood up for the rights of the LGBTQ community. I wish more journalists can reflect on his life,” said Maimane.

Fellow broadcaster and business partner, Thabo Shole-Mashao, said that McKaiser was a figure that was bigger than life. Mashao was visibly struggling to come to terms with the sad news.

” He had strong opinions, not just about life but politics. He was a sharp brilliant mind. His intellectual prowess was used to fight for those who are vulnerable and weak at all times. He maintained an ideology that spoke to the poor that sought justice. It’s really unbelievable, I refuse to believe it,” said Mashao.

McKaiser’s passing has left a big gap in the broad media space and his presence will be surely and sorely missed for many years to come.
