DEDT empowers women-led business during Women’s Day celebrations

Mpumalanga DEDT (Department of Economic Development and Tourism) seized the moment during the Provincial Women’s Day celebrations held at Agincourt in Bushbuckridge on Sunday 9 August 2026 to bring services directly to communities while honouring the legacy of courageous women.

DEDT officials were hard at work rendering comprehensive economic development services to residents of Agincourt and surrounding areas.

DEDT said members of the public came in their numbers to access exhibition stalls for assistance with business support, funding opportunities, MSME (Micro Small and Medium Enterprises) growth, and other economic development services.

“As part of commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Women’s March, the Department used this momentous day to support and empower women led MSME’s by donating tools of trade to Ndlovukazi Fast Food (Pty) Ltd,” said DEDT.

The donation is said to form part of broader provincial activities recognising the role of women in building the nation, as well as affirming the
department’s commitment towards creating sustainable jobs in local communities.

For the Department of Economic Development and Tourism, Women’s Day 2026 was both a remembrance of 1956 and a practical step toward economic inclusion.

Officials from DEDT entities including MER (Mpumalanga Economic Regulator), MEGA (Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency), also placed their stalls to exhibit the services they provide.

MEGA (Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency): Focused on trade and investment promotion, development funding for Micro Small Medium Enterprises, equity investments, and property and infrastructure development.

MER (Mpumalanga Economic Regulator): Regulates and oversees the gambling and liquor industries in the province, including issuing licenses and collecting relevant fees.

MTPA (Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency): Handles the sustainable management and promotion of tourism, marketing, and the conservation of biodiversity and provincial nature reserves.
