Kaizer Chiefs fans took to social media in large numbers to express their displeasure after the club formally announced the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as the new head coach of the senior team, effective immediately, on Wednesday.
Chiefs said that Ntseki’s appointment follows the restructuring of the technical team, which resulted in the demotion of Arthur Zwane from head coach to a new role as assistant coach, together with Dillon Sheperd.
Chiefs executive chairman, Dr Kaizer Motaung, congratulated Ntseki and thanked him for accepting the huge responsibility, with the hope that he will turn things around for Amakhosi, following a disappointing display in the previous season. Chiefs have not won a trophy in the past years.
” We know it’s not an easy task but we believe his experience and knowledge will help us improve and achieve our goals as Kaizer Chiefs. He has been here for two years, working well with coaches Arthur(Zwane) and Dillon(Shepherd) in his role as head of technical, and will now work with them in a different capacity,” said
Ntseki has reportedly served as the head of youth development at chiefs, including a stint as head of Bafana Bafana, he also coached various junior national teams.
” We look forward to coach Ntseki sharing his experience and ensuring that there is stability in the team while we improve our performance. We will provide him with all the support he needs in this new role,” said Motaung.
Some of the dissenting views on Ntseki’s a new appointment came from legendary former chiefs player, Lucas Radebe, who said that although the reasons are not clear as to how the appointment came about, he somehow feels that Kaizer Chiefs could’ve done better in the coaching department.
” I think for me a club as big as Chiefs you need someone with quality and a great reputation. Coach Ntseki has been there at the national team, he will make an impact but for a club like Kaizer Chiefs you need a coach that will change the players individually and make them better. I think Kaizer Chiefs could’ve done better,” said Radebe.
The team’s number one supporter, Saddam Maake, held a different view and called upon Chiefs fans to rally behind Ntseki.
” We have to support him as Amakhosi supporters. Many people who comment are from other teams and not Amakhosi family. Chiefs management confirmed our head coach Molefi Ntseki,” said Maake.
