Two male suspects were apprehended for the alleged kidnapping and robbery of a German tourist in Graskop on Monday 4 November.
Speaking for Mpumalanga police, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the tourist was attacked shortly after withdrawing cash from an ATM at a fuel station. He said the police were swiftly alerted by a concerned member of the public.
“ The information provided to the police indicated that the suspects were travelling in a Hyundai SUV. The men and women in Blue swiftly acted on this intelligence, locating and intercepting the vehicle. The suspects were apprehended by the astute members in the nearby bushes. Fortunately, the victim was rescued alive, though with injuries sustained during the ordeal,” said Mdhluli.

He said the vehicle used by the suspects was allegedly rented and it has been seized as it forms a crucial part of the investigation.
“ The police are exploring the possibility of additional charges against the suspects, including potential links to other criminal activities involving the same vehicle,” said Mdhluli.
Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner, Major-General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, Â said the 2024/2025 Safer Festive Season Operation is yielding results.
