Caption: Education MEC, Cathy Dlamini, strongly condemns the incident at LD Moetanalo High School

A teacher from LD Moetanalo High School at Mkhulu in Middleburg(Steve Tshwete Local Municipality)was put on precautionary suspension with immediate effect, following a social media video that has gone viral which reportedly depicts the teacher forcefully cutting the braids of a learner in class.
According to MEC for the  the Department of Education in Mpumalanga, MEC Cathy Dlamini she has strongly condemned the said action of the teacher, while also calling for an investigation to be immediately instituted in order to uncover the circumstances that might have led to the incident.
“ Teachers are expected to conduct themselves appropriately and professionally as guided by their professional ethics and conduct according to SACE(South African Council for Educators), hence this conduct is deemed inappropriate. They are supposed to be mindful of the bill of rights and always act in the best interests of learners,” she said .
The department has stated  that part of the investigation process will include looking into the school’s code of conduct for learners.
“ The learner and other learners affected by this unfortunate incident will urgently be assisted with psychological counselling by the Department officials to help them pull through this unfortunate ordeal. The Department will provide more information on the matter once the investigation is concluded,” she continued.
