The MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga, Vusi Shongwe, visited the Lebombo Border Post on Monday 1 April, to monitor the operations and the high traffic volumes as most people travel from Mozambique, on both Provincial and National roads, to various destinations following the Easter weekend.

The MEC was reportedly briefed about the latest successes at the border where counterfeit goods were confiscated and stolen vehicles recovered. Additionally, the MEC was briefed about the latest statistics on operations by traffic officers throughout the province of Mpumalanga.

Shongwe has called upon all road users to adhere to the rules of the road and exercise patience with each other to avoid unnecessary crashes.

“ If we fail as government to reduce road crashes, it means we have all failed as the people of Mpumalanga, because we all have a role to play to keep our roads safe. Road safety is everyone’s responsibility,” said Shongwe.
