The Mpumalanga DPWRT(Department of Public Works, Roads, and Transport) is set to commence repair works on the P33/4 road between Sabie and Hazyview following severe structural damages that were caused by heavy rainfall in the past weeks.
DPWRT said the  road, which is part of the Panorama route, has seven identified slip failures that will be addressed through emergency repairs. The main road works have been completed, and construction teams are currently being mobilised for the repairs.

The Panorama route is credited as a key tourism corridor, providing access to popular destinations such as God’s Window, the Blyde River Canyon, and numerous waterfalls.
“ As part of the Tourism Routes Preservation Initiatives, these repairs will help maintain safe and reliable access to these iconic attractions, ensuring that both local communities and visitors can continue to enjoy this vital component of the province’s natural heritage.
“ The P33/4 road forms a critical section of the Panorama Route, a renowned scenic drive that attracts visitors from around the world to experience Mpumalanga’s breathtaking landscapes,” said DPWRT.
The repair work will reportedly involve backfilling the affected road embankments to restore the original contours, ensuring the road is structurally stable and safe for use by motorists and tourists.
