Officials from the department of education in Mpumalanga province, visited several schools in the Gert Sibande and Nkangala districts, to assess the extent of damage caused by strong winds.
The affected schools include; Elusindisweni primary school, Mphanama secondary school, Izimbali boarding school, Nganana secondary school, Violet Jiyane secondary school, Kaduma primary school and Magotshwa secondary school.
In a statement released by the department, part of the visit by officials is aimed at advising on the steps to be taken in order to remedy the situation.
” The department will with with the school governing bodies of the affected schools to ensure the safety of learners and staff and to ensure that learning and teaching is not severely affected. This poses a challenge considering the huge infrastructure backlog that the province has. The department will provide regular updates on the developments and the cause of action to be undertaken,” said the department.
