The South African Police Service(SAPS), alongside a tracking company and security personnel, joined forces and resources to recover a VW Polo at Calcutta Policing Precinct, next to Hoxane outside Hazyview, on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th March 2024, after the said vehicle was reportedly hijacked last week at Mhala, on 23 March 2024.

According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, Matrix tracking company and Spesplan security, received information on the whereabouts of the vehicle.
“ The acquired information was operationalised and the team was led to a certain house where the VW Polo was found in the garage. Unfortunately, no one was home at the time. There are possibilities that upon noticing law enforcement officers, someone could have fled to evade arrest,” said Mdhluli.
He also said that a .38 revolver as well as live ammunition, stun grenades, explosives and a bullet vest, were recovered. According to Mdhluli, the investigation is ongoing and no one has been arrested yet.
Mpumalanga Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt-General Semakaleng Manamela, said the cooperation between SAPS and other law enforcement agencies, is bearing fruits in the fight against crime.
“ We are confident that the partnership that exists between SAPS and other law enforcement agencies can only produce more positive results going forward,’
said Manamela.
