A shooting incident is under investigation after a female police Constable was allegedly shot and injured while her mother(69), and a male police Constable(30), reportedly died from gunshot wounds at Sun City A, in KwaMhlanga, on Thursday 4 September 2025.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, said the two officers were reportedly an item, and police are not ruling out the possibility that the incident could be related to domestic violence. According to Brigadier Mdhluli, two firearms believed to be that of the state were recovered at the scene.
“ The two were certified dead at the scene by paramedics who attended the scene. Meanwhile, the female Constable was taken to hospital for medical treatment. The motive for the shooting in unknown at this stage. No one has been arrested ,” said Mdhluli.
The IPID(Independent Police Investigative Directorate) is reportedly conducting its own investigation into the matter.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has urged members(of the South African Police Service) undergoing stressful conditions in their relationships, to seek help and make use of available resources such as the Employee Health and Wellness (EHW) program.
“On Wednesday, 03 September 2025 we hosted the POLMED Symposium in White River with a hope of encouraging members to make use of their Medical Scheme as well as exhausting resources within their reach whenever they go through life challenges. These resources are readily available for them. It is so disheartening to hear of such tragic incidents happening to our members, ” said the General.
