Twelve learners from different regions, who took part in the 2023 provincial road safety debate, were hosted by Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security and liaison(DCSSL)- Vusi Shongwe, in Mbombela.
The department said that the event was held to wish the learners well as they will be representing the province of at the national leg of the competition.
In his address, Shongwe congratulated the learners and extended his gratitude to the teachers in the province for their continued efforts in ensuring quality education.
” Parents must play their role too. They must not relegate their responsibilities to teachers. It is the responsibility of parents to take care of their children and nurture them to be responsible people.
” Let us love our children and take care of them. It is the love that motivates them to be responsible,” said Shongwe.
The department also hosted the virtual provincial participatory educational techniques(PET) competition finals.
According to the department, the PET competition is aimed at changing the attitude of learners, particularly grade 10 and 11 learners, towards road safety by means of participatory education.
The urban category was won by Sidlamafa secondary school from Ehlanzeni region, while the rural category was scooped by Chief Ampie Masiya from Gert Sibande region.
