Couple Arrested During Joyride Around Town

A 32 year-old male suspect and his 36 year-old female companion were apprehended by police in Sabie, Mpumalanga, on Saturday 6 May after they were found in possession of a 9 mm Barreta pistol, eight magazines, 123 live ammunition for a 9 mm pistol and a revolver with three live rounds.
According to provincial police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, brigadier Selvy Mohlala, the male suspect took his father’s vehicle without consent and went on a joyride with his female friend. The female friend was reportedly found in possession of crystal meth drugs.
” Preliminary investigation indicates that both firearms are licensed and belong to the male suspect’s father, who somehow left them in his car, contravening the Firearm Control Act. Police cannot rule out possibilities of laying a charge against the owner of the firearms for possible negligence, by leaving lethal weapons in a car instead of keeping the items in a safe, as per requirement of the alluded Act,” said Mohlala.
