A 15-year-old learner is expected to appear in court after he was arrested for allegedly stabbing a fellow 17-year-old learner in KwaMhlanga on Thursday 14 August 2025.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Lt-Col Jabu Ndubane, said the victim was discovered lying face-up on the ground with a stab wound to the chest when the police and emergency personnel were called to the scene.
The learners were allegedly involved in a confrontation next to the school gate and the fight continued to the streets where the tragedy occurred.
“ The suspect took out a knife, stabbed the victim on the chest, and fled thereafter. The suspect was then traced to his home and arrested. The murder weapon was found in possession of the suspect’s friend, who was taken in for further questioning. A murder case is under investigation,” said Lt-Col Ndubane.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon after being seen by a probation officer.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga,Major-General (Dr)Zeph Mkhwanazi, has welcomed the arrest and expressed deep concern over the incident.
” It is heartbreaking that such tragic incident involved children. Learners should be focused on their studies, not violence. We urge parents, schools, and communities to work together to address the root cause of youth violence, ” said the Major-General Mkhwanazi.
