Two suspects, aged between 39 and 40, were arrested on the evening of 20 March 2026, after members of the Ehlanzeni Anti-Hijacking Team intercepted and seized a consignment of alleged counterfeit goods with an estimated value of R2.4 million, during a patrol on the N4 route.

The SAPS(South African Police Service) spokesperson in Mpumalanga, Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, said the police acted swiftly upon receiving information about a truck travelling from Mozambique towards Nelspruit, allegedly transporting counterfeit merchandise.
“ The truck that matched the description given was spotted and tactically stopped. During the search, members discovered 30 boxes containing sneakers, suspected to be imitations of a well-known brand.

“ The driver and his crew were subsequently arrested and charged with possession of illicit/counterfeit goods. The suspects are expected to appear before the Nelspruit court soon,” said Captain Nonyane-Mpe.
