A number of dangerous items, including knives, dagga, alcohol, vapes, cigarettes, were found during a visit conducted by Mpumalanga DCSSL(Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison), in partnership with the Department of Education, at three secondary schools in Pienaar(Bonginhlanhla, Sicelalwati, and Hillary Mthethwa), on Thursday 22 May 2025.

The two departments were accompanied by various stakeholders in the law enforcement and security cluster, including SAPS(South African Police Service), Department of Correctional Services, Ehlanzeni District Municipality, City of Mbombela, Department of Social Development, CPF(Community Policing Forum), CPW(Crime Prevention Wardens), and SANCA(South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependency).

According to DCSSL, the visit was part of the EXCO Outreach Programme which took place in the City of Mbombela between 22 and 23 May 2025.

“ During the visits, the schools and learners are searched to look for unwanted items such as weapons and drugs. The visits are part of the School Safety Programme. Some learners at Hillary Mthethwa Secondary School, who were found with dagga, assured the police to arrest two men who sell dagga,” said DCSSL.
