As part of his commitment to visit all the municipalities in Mpumalanga to understand the challenges that hinder service delivery, Premier Ndlovu held a fruitful two-days interaction with mayors, speakers, members of mayoral committees and municipal managers from Gert Sibande and Nkangala Districts.
“ I am delighted that I have met with at least 75% of the municipalities in the past two days and have discovered their challenges,” said Premier Ndlovu.
According to a statement issued by the Office of the Premier(OTP), Ndlovu is satisfied with the recommendations he received during the engagement, but he is equally concerned about the struggle by municipalities in generating revenue, handling finances, provision of water, removing sewer, and the handling of Eskom debt, amongst other challenges.
“ In the same process we have gathered some recommendations from them(municipalities)that will help in improving service delivery for our people,” he said.
The Premier said numerous complaints were raised by communities during the recent Taking the Legislature to the People programme, held in Mkhondo Local Municipality, which clearly revealed that the people appreciate the houses that are being built by the Provincial Government, but there is no bulk services.
The OTP said the Premier has committed to announce his intervention immediately after he has met with the municipalities from Ehlanzeni District in the coming week.
The meeting was also attended by Mpumalanga MEC for Cooperate Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs(COGHS&TA) and the Provincial Treasury Head Official, Gugu Mashiteng, amongst others.
