Senior Budget Advisers assigned to all provincial departments met with the Head Official at Mpumalanga Provincial Treasury, Gugu Mashiteng, on Monday 26 August, to review budget management practices and outcomes in departments for the last five years.
According to a statement by Mpumalanga Treasury, the meeting aimed to shape the development trajectory for the 7th Administration.
“ One of the focus areas was the special allocations provided to various departments for programmes such as section 106 investigations and youth development fund, among others,” said Treasury.
The Department also to the budget vote speech delivered by Mpumalanga MEC for Finance on 6 August, in which he stated that the Provincial Treasury will scrutinise every cent and carefully consider every expenditure decision in the province.
Majuba went on to reveal that Mpumalanga Treasury will also provide support to departments in conducting expenditure reviews to enable better decision-making about resource allocation.
“ The Provincial Treasury will probe expenditure trends to gain insight into government expenditure on these priorities and inform the fiscal strategy of the seventh administration,” Majuba said.
According to the Department, the Budget Advisers were encouraged to go beyond the desktop analysis of the In Year Monitoring tool to provide reasonable assurance on the quality of expenditure in the province.
