New Sherif in greening the environment and feeding the nation , the newly appointed MEC for DARDLEA (Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs), Nompumelelo Hlophe, recently led a stakeholders consultative workshop in Middleburg, as part of reviewing and conducting public consultations into the draft of the South African Climate Change Gender Action Plan.
According to DARDLEA, the workshop was aimed at raising public awareness around Climate Change response efforts, and to share information on the country’s progress in Gender Mainstreaming.

Hlophe had called on stakeholders to come up with clear plans and achievable timelines, in the effort to mitigate the efforts of Climate Change.
“ No one should be left behind in the efforts to mitigate Climate Change challenges. Rural communities can benefit greatly from outreach programmes,” said Hlophe.
DARDLEA stated that Community-based formations such as NPO’s(Non Profit Organisations), Faith-based Organisations, Traditional Authorities and Civil Society are expected to have gender-sensitive climate change policies, strategies or plans, in making their contributions.
