Mpumalanga Health MEC, Sasekani Manzini, handed out certificates to 34 of 94 facilities in Nkangala District that have been declared compliant by the Office of Health Standard Compliance(OHSC), in a ceremony held at DPWRT&T Hall in Middleburg on Tuesday 2 April.

In her keynote address, Manzini said it is encouraging to note that 123 of 292 facilities, across the province, meet OHSC standards, with Ehlanzeni District ranking second-highest at 36 of 124 and Gert-Sibande District leading with 53 of 74 facilities.
According to the MEC, facilities that are certified as compliant by the OHSC undergo assessment every four years, with the option to request a 12 month extension after initial four-year period, allowing assessment after five years. Non-compliant and new facilities are reportedly assessed annually.
“ This progress report highlights our commitment to maintaining high standards in healthcare delivery. The OHSC serves as a crucial regulator, ensuring that healthcare facilities adhere to required minimum standards of care, and we must continue on this path of excellence. The certification of these facilities serves as evidence that our province is embracing the implementation of the National Health Insurance(NHI),” said Manzini.
The MEC said that the mission by government is to ensure widespread access to healthcare services, which is a goal that is achievable through the construction of secure health infrastructure.
“ It is imperative that we prioritise ensuring all remaining health facilities align with OHSC standards requirements. It is essential to emphasise that compliance with OHSC standards is a mandate for all our facilities, crucial for the enhancement of our health services,” she said.
Manzini acknowledged the collective effort demonstrated by the district, sub district and PHC facilities management, for their collaboration and support. She also highlighted the need to avoid complacency and continue to strive for better health care delivery on a day-to-day basis.
“ I urge all of you to continue working hard and in a collaborative manner towards the realisation of our vision for high quality healthcare services for all. Your dedication, compassion and resilience inspired us all. Let us celebrate the remarkable achievements that have exemplified excellence in respective fields,” said Manzini.
Some of the dignitaries in attendance included, the local Traditional Leadership, Organised Labour, Faith Leaders, OHSC, Clinic Committee Members and Senior Provincial Health Officials.
