Four suspected illegal immigrants were arrested and expired goods from some shops were reportedly confiscated during a three-day stock theft operation in Bushbuckridge.
The operation was conducted by the department of community safety, security and liaison(DCSSL) in collaboration with Bushbuckridge and Mhala police, department of Home affairs, environmental health practitioners from Ehlanzeni district, local farmers, CPF(community policing forum) and DARDLEA(department of agriculture, rural development, land and environmental affairs), to monitor compliance with regard to Meat Safety Act of 2000.
” Some of the activities emanated from the stakeholders engagement that took place at Bushbuckridge around May 2023, where farmers complained about the high rise in theft of goats, which are sold to foreign nationals,” said DCSSL in a statement.
