Police in Mpumalanga are investigating the torching of five trucks in the Watervale Boven area last night.

The incident occurred a day after six trucks were also set alight on the Van Reenen’s Pass toll route on the N3, which was widely condemned by various organisations, including president Cyril Ramaphosa and transport Minister, Sindisiwe Chikunga.

Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Selvy Mohlala confirmed the incident, however, he said that the motive is not yet established. Mohlala also said that no arrests have been made so far.

” It is alleged that two vehicles came and stopped the tucks, they instructed the drivers to get out of the trucks and they set the trucks alight. We would like to advice the motorists if they are coming from Pretoria to Neslpruit to utilise the Schoemanskloof turn off, and they need to drive with caution. We are continuing with our investigation,” said Mohlala.
