The department of agriculture, rural development, land and environmental affairs(DARDLEA), together with the multiparty committee of members from the national parliament, held public hearings on the Preservation and Development of Agricultural Land Bill in Ermelo, on Sunday.

The event was attended by hundreds of community members, who participated fully by contributing their respective inputs in relation to the Bill.

DARDLEA MEC in Mpumalanga, Busi Shiba, and the multiparty committee, conducted similar hearings on Friday and Saturday, at Graskop(town hall) and Emalahleni (at the Thusong service centre in Klarinet Ext 6), respectively.

According to DARDLEA, the bill is expected to address the issue of agricultural land, once it is passed into law after all inputs and comments have been solicited.

” Concerned stakeholders and community members alike, showed much interest on the public hearings, which are aimed at gathering views and inputs on the Bill that will provide principles for the management of agricultural land, also encourage the best possible use of agricultural land, in order to grow and sustain agricultural production once passed into law,”said DARDLEA
