Recognition awards were handed out to 45 outstanding women from all nine provinces during the Women in Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development Annual Recognition Awards held in Mbombela recently.
The event was held under the theme; ” Recognising the role of women in improving rural development, food security, increasing production and employment”.

According to a statement released by the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs (DARDLEA), the awards were presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development-Thoko Didiza, in recognition of the contribution towards hunger eradication, job creation and improvement of rural areas, displayed by the 45 women in their respective communities.
Mpumalanga was represented by Constance Mashaba, Lebogang Dhludhlu, Angel Mbatha, Phumzile Nhlapo, Thandi Annah Masilela, Thembeni Evah Lekhuleni and Hilda Silwane.
The guests included; DARDLEA MEC in Mpumalanga-Busi Shiba, Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Land Reform Mcebisi Skwatsha, DARDLEA Head of Department – Cain Chunda.
