Mpumalanga DCSSL(Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison) is mourning the passing of a 49-year-old traffic law enforcement officer, Provincial Inspector-Dumisane Ndlovu, who was allegedly hit by a minibus taxi on the N2 Road outside Mkhondo towards Phongola, on Thursday 5 February 2026.
The deceased officer, attached to Piet Retief Cost Centre, was reportedly conducting a routine stop-and-check when the unfortunate incident occurred at around 17h00, and he was declared dead on the scene.
According to DCSSL provincial spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, Ndlovu is the fourth law enforcement officer to die on the same stretch of road in similar circumstances.
In his response to the tragedy, Mpumalanga MEC for DCSSL, Jackie Macie, said the Department is devastated, and extended his condolences to Ndlovu’s family, friends, and colleagues.
“ We don’t have enough traffic officers to police our roads. Losing one officer cripples our efforts to enhance road safety,” said Macie.
A case of culpable homicide is reportedly being investigated, while funeral arrangements will be communicated at a later stage.
