A 34 year-old suspect, who’s identity cannot be disclosed for safety reasons, was remanded in custody after appearing at the Mbombela Magistrate’s Court on 29 July, for his alleged connection in the fatal shooting of a taxi driver.
The spokesperson for the police in Mpumalanga, Colonel Donald Mdhluli, said the incident allegedly took place at a filling station in Samora Machel Drive in Mbombela CBD(Central Business District) on 27 July, following an argument that ensued between the suspect and the deceased victim.
“ The argument escalated to a point whereby the suspect reportedly took out a firearm and shot the victim. The police as well as Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene. The victim was unfortunately certified dead by the Medical Personnel on the scene,” said Mdhluli.
He said an arrest was effected after a case of murder opened.
“ During his court appearance, the case was postponed to 7 August 2024 for formal bail application,” Mdhluli concluded.
