Eighty(80) sheep worth R232 000 were recovered by police in Daggakraal after they were allegedly stolen by a 24 year-old suspect who was later arrested for the crime.

Mpumalanga spokesperson for the police, Captain Magonseni Nkosi, said the sheep were recovered through a collaborative effort with Langfontein group and a local farmers in Daggakraal, after they were reported missing by a farm employee on Thursday 11 July.

“ The farmers followed the tracks which led them to the suspect’s kraal not far from the farm where the sheep were stolen. After identifying the place where the sheep were kept, the farmers alerted police. The sheep were positively identified through their brand marks,” said Nkosi.

He said that the suspect reportedly gained entry into the place where the sheep were kept, by cutting the fence.

“ The 24 year-old suspect that was found on the premises was arrested for possession of stolen livestock. The suspect is expected to appear before Amersfoort Magistrate’s Court on Monday 15 July,” said Nkosi.

Mpumalanga Acting Police Commissioner, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, said the arrest of the suspect might help to crack other cases whereby farmers lost their live stock due to theft.
